Sep 11, 2020 · For factory loads, the .44 Mag ammunition is going to be quite a bit more expensive than the .357 Mag rounds. The same goes for the brass when loading by hand. While there are rounds available that are cheaper and on the high end of the price spectrum for the 44 Mag vs 357 Mag, averages lean towards the .44 Mag is a more expensive cartridge.
revolver chambered for .357 Magnum. Loaded in either .38 Special or .357 Magnum cases. A Model 686 revolver should have no problem handling the load. There are some (as Magnum alludes) who are concerned about "flash-over" or odd pressure responses when a primer flash fires "over" a light powder charge rather than "into" it.
The.357 is one of my favorite, if not my favorite hunting rounds. Out of handguns, and especially revolvers, since you specified your 5", I use hand loads out of my 4" Security Six or my 6" GP100.
